It’s been one month since I’ve returned to work, and clearly its affecting blog output. Not that I don’t think about writing, I constantly want to write. The problem? I sit in front of a computer for 9 hours and it mutes any desire to spend additional time at home on my laptop. It is difficult to motivate myself. But I am determined to keep this blog going! So dear reader, please forgive my absence and I will try to do better.
What Are We At?
What have we been doing? Well, we have been working on the boat. I say that as the collective ‘we’, because Al is doing most of the work. We celebrated our last weekend on the water Labour Day weekend. It was a memorable weekend with an awesome group of friends. The Cook House Cruisers awards were given out and the Ladies Auxilliary, who coordinate the event, did a fabulous job. It gets better every year and we were stoked to be a part of it this year. Even Filbert got an award!
Getting Ingomar Ready for Winter
The following week we hauled Ingomar and the job of clearing her out was undertaken. What a lot of stuff we had accumulated. Once we emptied her, we cleaned her inside and out. We removed the floors, and Al plans to refinish them this winter. The bilge and fibreglass subfloor was cleaned. Al polished the hull to restore her to a beautiful finish. The mast and boom has been removed, winterized and stored. The engine and fresh water system will be winterized this week. And then we have to figure out a cover to keep her protected from the elements.
Boats are wonderful but putting them away is a load of work. Yet we have to treat her well because Ingomar has been an amazing boat and home and deserves respect. We’ve also been busy getting settled into a new home and Filbert, I am pleased to report, is one happy kitty.
My Facebook account sends me reminders everyday where we were one year ago, photos of warmer climes and lazier times. It’s just the incentive I need to keep working to get back out there! But hey, you have to enjoy life wherever you are and that is just what I intend to keep doing.
